MELAMINE Chemical name: MELAMINE Molecular formula: C3N3(NH2)3 Molecular weight: 126 Physical and chemical properties: Melamine is a white monoclinic crystal with high melting point. Its sp.gr.1.573, m.p.354. It will decompose when the temperature is higher than m.p. It is difficultly soluble in water, ethylene glycol, glycerin and pyridine, slightly soluble in ethyl alcohol, insoluble in ether, benzene and carbon tetrachloride. The aqueous solution appears weak alkaline characteristic. Method of manufacture: Melamine is manufactured by the reaction of urea under high pressure and high temperature.
